"Better City, Better Life", Expo 2010 Shanghai China will be a grand international gathering. For its 184 days, approximately 200 nations and international organizations will take part in the exhibition as well as 70 million visitors from home and abroad will be attracted. The catering services of World Expo 2010 have the characteristics of massive scale, multiple demands, long period and high requirements.

Food is the first necessity of man. Our country and the Shanghai government are taking the food safety issue very seriously, especially for the World Expo 2010, in order to offer a milestone in the history of the World Expositions. Stay vigilant on food safety and enhancing information collection; improve market entry system for food suppliers; strengthen food safety monitoring and supervising systems; release food emergency plan. To address these issues, Shanghai government has devoted great efforts to improve food safety and welcome overseas experts to visit China for study or training.

To facilitate the advancement of these food safety initiatives, the relevant parties plan to organize the International Forum on Food Safety for World Expo 2010 Shanghai scheduled to be held in Shanghai in May 18-19, 2008. This Forum is an important event for improving food safety control and assurance systems in Shanghai, and the discussions will be informative and relevant to all colleagues interested and engaged in food science and food safety, including legislators, educators, policy advisors, researchers, food industries, food ingredient suppliers, food equipment suppliers, food technologists and engineers.
